GENERAL GUIDANCE

Subject Content

These discussions and resources provide ideas, plans or materials for teaching a range of historical topics which are part of the 2014 National Curriculum. We intend to build up this section of the site steadily rather than hurriedly so we can focus on providing high-quality materials for teachers.

A central feature of these resources is that they all support the development of children’s ability to undertake historical enquiries and support their understanding of historical concepts such as evidence, causation and significance.

The boxes with the heading ‘Portal page’ in the top right hand corner lead to a range of discussions and resources on a single topic such as World War One – and, as we build up more resources on single topics, we shall introduce more Portal Pages. Other boxes lead to a single item.

Our Locality and the Second World War

This unit for Upper Key Stage 2 pupils, written by Ann Moore, can be used either as an aspect or theme of British history that extends pupils knowledge beyond 1006, or as a Local Study.

It incorporates some useful cross curricular links with popular WW2 literature, such as ‘Carrie’s War’ and Anne Frank’s Diary.
