Ian Dawson (one of the series editors) writes:
Written by Ed Podesta and Pam Canning, Italian Unification 1815-1871 covers the period from the Napoleonic occupation of the Italian states to the late 19th century and briefly looks at the reality and impact of unification on Italy in the succeeding decades.
As the series editor working on the book I found the topic far more interesting than I’d expected – the individuals and their principles and sacrifices, the sheer unlikelihood of unification, the chance effects of other nations’ motives, the links to so many broader developments in European history, the ideas about nationhood in general.
Like the rest of this series the book is not linked to any individual specification and is, in our opinion, all the more refreshing for that! There is clearly a role for specification-linked books but not every book has to have such a link – if they did it would be hopeless preparation for further studies.
Ed has written about the book on the Hodder History site at HERE …
He has also created a set of podcasts about Italian Unification which you can find on iTunes HERE …
