SHP Publishing
Principles, Plans and Possibilities

1. Publishing Principles

Our objectives are that resources published under SHP’s banner should:

a) make learning more enjoyable and effective for students, enhancing their understanding of how History is studied, their knowledge of the past and their appreciation of what studying History contributes to their own lives and understanding of the present, for example by helping them to develop their own opinions and values, understanding and articulating their multiple identities.

b) help teachers solve immediate problems for example helping make sense of, improve upon and go beyond curriculum initiatives such as 2008 KS3, new GCSE and A level specifications.

c) have a CPD function, stimulating teachers to think about teaching and learning issues. These issues include course structures, building courses and individual activities around learning issues, developing effective enquiry and independent learning techniques, integrating up-to-date historical research, widening the range of teaching and learning strategies, developing creative forms of communication and clarifying the value of studying history.

d) explore new ideas in creating resources e.g. the inter-linking of books, CDs and website-based resources, the presentation of a diversity of content and diverse approaches to the study of history.

3. Interested in helping to develop resources for SHP?

As we develop our publishing we may need teachers to review, advise on and trial material. This is often the first step towards writing.

We are also interested in hearing from anyone who is highly enthusiastic and committed to writing new resources. In particular, we'd like to know:
